Supervision
Supervision during the camp will be the responsibility of the director, camp instructors, and parent volunteers. Students must follow the directions of these people at all times. We will need a parent volunteer to be at each practice (morning, afternoon, evening) to help with water and any other needs that might arise. Sign-ups will be at the band booster meeting on July 12 or you can e-mail Mr. McAllister at
ryan.mcallister@oldham.kyschools.us and let him know when you would like to volunteer. We also need some parent volunteers to help with the pool party on July 20. Please also let Mr. McAllister know if you can help with that.
Meals
Lunch will be provided everyday as outlined on the schedule. On days that we rehearse from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. you will need to be responsible for dinner on your own. Options for this include packing a lunch, walking to nearby fast food restaurants, having a parent pick you up, or driving yourself somewhere (for those of you old enough to drive). Please note that we do not encourage students to drive with other students during meal breaks. However, it is impossible to police this. Parents please discuss with your student whether this is allowable or not. If you would like to require that your student stay at
SOHS during the dinner break, please let Mr. McAllister know and he will check to make sure that they do not leave during the break.
Forms
The following forms must be turned in prior to Band Camp:
• OCBE Participation and Release Form
• Field Trip Permission Form and Release
• Medical Release Form (must be notarized – Ginger Greer, Band Booster President can do this for you.)
• Permission to Capture and Publish Student Image and/or Voice
• Drug Testing Consent Form
• SOHS Marching Band Directory Information
• 2008 Marching Band Student Financial Agreement
• Parent Volunteer Background Check (If you are a parent who will be volunteering and have not already had this done previously)
NOTE: According to OCBE policy any student participating in an extra-curricular activity must have health insurance. Inexpensive insurance that covers a student only while at school or while participating in school activities is available through the school. See Mr. McAllister if you are in need of this.
Clothing
• Wear loose comfortable clothing (clothing must be appropriate and modest)
• Gym Shoes (sandals, flip-flops, and other type of open footwear are not permitted during marching rehearsals)
Other Items to Bring
• Sunscreen! Please bring and wear an appropriate sunscreen! We will be out in the sun a lot for two weeks. It is important that you protect yourself from the sun. A bad sunburn should not be an excuse for missing practice. This can be prevented. Be smart!
• Water Bottle/Cooler with your name clearly marked on it. We will have water available at every practice, but it is strongly recommended that you also have your own water with you.
Attendance
Attendance is crucially important to the success of our camp. We expect to have 100% attendance every day. Please do not schedule doctor, orthodontist, or other appointments during band camp. If an emergency situation arises and you must miss a rehearsal, please notify Mr. McAllister by calling 445-4731.
Please be on time in the morning! The band room will open by 8:30 a.m. every day. Feel free to arrive early.
